Some of my recently completed projects.
Most of my projects are internal tools and systems for clients and thus not shareable, but these have generously agreed for the work to be shown.
Please get in touch if you would like to know more about any of these projects or see a live demo via video call.

OLAB Portal
Overstrand Laboratory near Hermanus provides testing services to wineries. The OLAB Portal is a web application that allows clients to order tests, view & compare results, and manage their accounts. It was developed to replace a paper-based system and to provide a more efficient and user-friendly experience for both the laboratory staff and the clients.
Working with Dewald has been a total game-changer for our lab. He built a system so smooth and intuitive that it feels like it runs itself. Our admin workload has shrunk dramatically, and our customers love how easy it is to log samples and get results. It fits our processes so perfectly, it’s like it reads our minds. Dewald has a knack for turning complex workflows into something that just clicks. If you want software that feels effortless but does all the heavy lifting, he’s your guy.
- Jason Salzwedel, Overstrand Laboratory
A web portal for clients
The portal allows clients to place new orders, view their results, and look up all past results. Colleagues can be added to the account to make the results available to them.

Easily compare results
Clients can compare results from different samples to identify trends. There is also a download option to receive all the results in an Excel file.

Ease of admin in the laboratory
Replacing a paper-based system, the application allows laboratory staff to easily enter results which are then automatically emailed and made available to clients in the portal.

Winemaker access to multiple wineries
When multiple wineries add the same winemaker they can access all the results for those wineries through a single login. Their multiple access is not revealed to the wineries.

Access control
User rights can be controlled to allow many combinations determining how they can use the portal.

Self-service flexibility
Laboratory employees can configure cultivars, categories, tests, and more to adapt the portal to the changing needs of the business. This allows the laboratory to grow and change without requiring expensive development work.

FBSSC members
False Bay Sport Shooting Club (FBSSC), near Simon's Town, offers a variety of ranges for members and visitors to practice and compete in multiple shooting disciplines.
The club's previous Wordpress and Woocommerce setup was hard to use and made tracking transactions and administration difficult for committee members.
I developed a custom application enabling members to sign up, renew, access documents, manage cards, vote in polls, and more. Visitors use an online indemnity system. The committee now has full oversight of members, membership types, documents, notifications, polls, and automated renewals. Additional modules support compliance management for companies and event management.
Member login
Members can access their dashboard to view/renew their membership (including) making credit card payments), add and pay for dependant members, load their firearm to receive renewal reminders, access club documents, and more.

Mobile friendly
Everthing is designed to work well on mobile devices, allowing members to access their information and perform tasks on the go.

Committee dashboard
Replacing a spreadsheet the committee now has a dashboard to manage almost all aspects of the club. This includes managing Members, Events, Documents, Polls, Notifications, and much more.

Access to all details
Committee members can access all details of members, transactions, manually record payments (for example cash payments), and more. This allows them to manage the club collaboratively and efficiently.

Data exports
To enable accounting, data portability, etc. the system allows Excel exports of critical data.

Visitor indemnities now online
Committee members can manage visitor indemnities online and visitors can complete their indemnity forms on their smartphone by simply scanning a QR code at the range entrance. This replaces the previous paper-based system and allows for easy tracking of indemnities.
